It functions as an antiemetic, dopaminergic antagonist, gastrointestinal drug, xenobiotic, and environmental contaminant. It is a tertiary amino compound, substituted aniline, member of benzamides, and monochlorobenzenes. It is the conjugate base of metoclopramide(1+).
