Avanafil is a monocarboxylic acid amide formed by the formal condensation of the carboxy group of 4-[(3-chloro-4-methoxybenzyl)amino]-2-[(2S)-2-(hydroxymethyl)pyrrolidin-1-yl]pyrimidine-5-carboxylic acid with the amino group of pyrimidin-2-ylmethylamine. It is used for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. Avanafil acts as an inhibitor of EC 3.1.4.* (phosphoric diester hydrolase) and a vasodilator. It belongs to the classes of pyrimidines, aromatic amides, organochlorine compounds, prolinols, and monocarboxylic acid amides.
