Bitolterol is the di-4-toluate ester of (+-)-N-tert-butylnoradrenaline (colterol). As a prodrug of colterol, a beta2-adrenergic receptor agonist, it is used as its methanesulfonate salt to relieve bronchospasm in asthma, chronic bronchitis, and emphysema. It functions as a bronchodilator, anti-asthmatic drug, beta-adrenergic agonist, and prodrug.
