Oseltamivir is a cyclohexenecarboxylate ester, specifically the ethyl ester of oseltamivir acid. As an antiviral prodrug, it is hydrolyzed in the liver to the active free carboxylic acid. It inhibits EC 3.2.1.18 (exo-alpha-sialidase) and is used to slow the spread of influenza. It also functions as a xenobiotic, environmental contaminant, amino-acid ester, primary amino compound, and member of acetamides.
