Product Information

4-Phenylbutyric acid is a monocarboxylic acid derived from butyric acid with a phenyl group at C-4. It is a histone deacetylase inhibitor with anticancer activity, inhibiting cell proliferation, invasion, migration, and inducing apoptosis in glioma cells. It also inhibits protein isoprenylation, depletes plasma glutamine, increases fetal hemoglobin production via gamma-globin gene activation, and affects hPPARgamma activation. It functions as an EC 3.5.1.98 inhibitor, antineoplastic agent, apoptosis inducer, and prodrug. It is functionally related to butyric acid and is the conjugate acid of 4-phenylbutyrate.
