Cerulenin is an epoxydodecadienamide isolated from species such as Acremonium, Acrocylindrum, and Helicoceras. It inhibits lipid biosynthesis by interfering with enzyme function and acts as an antifungal, antiinfective, antilipemic, antimetabolite, fatty acid synthesis inhibitor, and antimicrobial agent. It is a monocarboxylic acid amide and an epoxide.
