Naltrexone is an organic heteropentacyclic compound and a morphinane-like compound, structurally similar to naloxone but with the allyl group on the nitrogen replaced by a cyclopropylmethyl group. It is a mu-opioid receptor antagonist used to treat alcohol dependence. It functions as a central nervous system depressant, environmental contaminant, xenobiotic, and antidote to opioid poisoning. It is also the conjugate base of naltrexone(1+).
