Product Information

Travoprost is the isopropyl ester of prostaglandin F2α, with the pentyl group replaced by a 3-(trifluoromethyl)phenoxymethyl group. It is a synthetic analogue of prostaglandin F2α used in ophthalmic solutions to control open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension by reducing intraocular pressure. As a prodrug, the isopropyl ester is hydrolyzed by corneal esterases to the active free acid, fluprostenol. It functions as an antiglaucoma drug, antihypertensive agent, prodrug, ophthalmology drug, and prostaglandin receptor agonist. It belongs to prostaglandins Fα, (trifluoromethyl)benzenes, and isopropyl esters, and is functionally related to fluprostenol.
