Pregabalin is a gamma-amino acid derivative of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) with an isobutyl group at the beta-position (S-enantiomer). It binds with high affinity to the alpha2-delta site of voltage-gated calcium channels in central nervous system tissues. It functions as an anticonvulsant and calcium channel blocker, and is related to GABA.
