Cytarabine is a pyrimidine nucleoside in which cytosine is linked to D-arabinofuranose via a beta-N(1)-glycosidic bond. It is primarily used in the treatment of leukemia, particularly acute non-lymphoblastic leukemia. As an antimetabolite antineoplastic agent, it inhibits DNA synthesis. It also exhibits antiviral and immunosuppressant properties. Cytarabine functions as an antineoplastic, antimetabolite, antiviral, and immunosuppressive agent. It is a beta-D-arabinoside, a pyrimidine nucleoside, and a monosaccharide derivative, and is functionally related to cytosine.
