Sulfacetamide is a sulfonamide derived from sulfanilamide by acylation at the sulfonamide nitrogen. It functions as an antimicrobial, antiinfective, dihydropteroate synthase inhibitor, and antibacterial drug. It is a substituted aniline and an N-sulfonylcarboxamide, and is functionally related to sulfanilamide. It is the conjugate acid of sulfacetamide(1-).
