Carglumic acid is a urea and N-carbamoyl derivative of L-glutamic acid. It is an orphan drug used to treat N-acetylglutamate synthase deficiency, causing acute hyperammonaemia. It acts as a carbamylphosphate synthetase I activator and is a N-acyl-L-glutamic acid. It is also a conjugate acid of N-carbamoyl-L-glutamate(2-).
