Amidotrizoic acid is a benzoic acid with iodine substituents at the 2-, 4-, and 6-positions and acetamido groups at the 3- and 5-positions. It is primarily used as its N-methylglucamine and sodium salts as an X-ray contrast medium in gastrointestinal studies, angiography, and urography. It functions as a radioopaque agent, environmental contaminant, and xenobiotic. It is an organoiodine compound, a member of benzoic acids, and an acetamide. It is also the conjugate acid of the amidotrizoic acid anion.
