Plerixafor is an azamacrocycle composed of two cyclam rings linked by a 1,4-phenylenebis(methylene) bridge. It functions as a CXCR4 chemokine receptor antagonist and hematopoietic stem cell mobilizer. Used in combination with G-CSF, it mobilizes hematopoietic stem cells into peripheral blood for collection and autologous transplantation in patients with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and multiple myeloma. It serves as an immunological adjuvant, antineoplastic agent, anti-HIV agent, and C-X-C chemokine receptor type 4 antagonist. It is classified as an azamacrocycle, crown amine, secondary amino compound, azacycloalkane, tertiary amino compound, and member of benzenes. Functionally related to 1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane.
