Mitoguazone is a hydrazone formed by the formal condensation of the two carbonyl groups of methylglyoxal with the primary amino groups of two aminoguanidine molecules. It functions as an antineoplastic agent, apoptosis inducer, and inhibitor of EC 4.1.1.50 (adenosylmethionine decarboxylase). It is a hydrazone and a guanidine derivative, functionally related to methylglyoxal and aminoguanidine. It is the conjugate base of mitoguazone(2+).
